Katzentotenlieder (“Songs on the Deaths of Cats“) & Other Jewish Cat Miscellany is a compilation of material pertaining to cats in Jewish life and death inspired by Gustav Mahler’s song cycle, Kindertotentlieder, (“Songs on the Deaths of Children,” adapted from the work of Friedrich Rückert). Poetry by Adrienne Varady & Barbara Selya. Liturgical and other writings by Aharon Varady. Paintings by Adrienne Varady, and others.

The work contains a levayah (“funeral service”) for dear and departed cat friends, as well as other material that honors the place of cats in our Jewish families and in our personal lives.

Barbara Selya is a former editor of HUC Press. Adrienne Varady is a painter and former Visual Arts Librarian for DAAP/University of Cincinnati. Aharon Varady is the founding director of the Open Siddur Project.
